Innovative additive manufacturing solutions to be showcased at Paris Air Show

Set to take place from June 19th – 25th, the Paris Air Show will focus on sustainability and global connectivity as two of its major themes – two areas that could be driven by additive manufacturing (AM) technologies and new materials.

Based in Switzerland, technology partner Oerlikon has developed abrasion-resistant coating for core components in aircraft engines to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during flight operations.

These coatings increase safety by reducing abrasion, resulting in slower wear while also reducing the friction of moving parts and lowering fuel consumptions and CO2 emissions.

The production process involves continuously digitally networked coating machines improving productivity through higher capacity utilisation and fast error correction.
